santorini island

Preston and Porter,

We took an airplane from Athens to Santorini and immediately began exploring the island. Our hotel is in a town called Fira and it is high on a cliff and overlooks the Mediterranean Sea.  We have a great view of the Santorini volcano too! Almost everything here is built high and on the side of the cliffs. Mine and dads legs are so tired from all the steps that are everywhere.  We rented a moped for most of our time here so we could go all over the island. Dadis alittle  silly of a driver, too,and our helmets were not the safest. I didn't like the wind blowing in my eyes and it is somewhat cold here but it is the best way to get around.  Santorini is full of volcanic rock so our first stop was to see red beach. It is a beach with red sand and red lava rock. We also went and saw the old city of Aritaki. It is a minoan city from very long ago that was preserved by volcanic ash after a massive eruption from the volcano.

For our next adventure we hiked a big mountain and explored the ancient city of Thera that began in 900 b.c. I couldn't believe how big the city was and how hard it must of been to get to it. It was such a tiring hike but we made it!  Dad and I went and rested on a black sand beach and ate a picnic lunch and looked for special rocks and shells for you boys.
One of the most talked about thugs to do is see the oia sunset. We drove our little scooter to the other side of the mountain on a skinny narrow road to the beautiful town of oia. We watched the sunset and dad meta new friend! He was from Belgium - originally India and 9 years old. He talked to dad about video games and Internet speeds, he was pretty silly. His brother was kind of crazy- he was 4 and he reminded me of you two!

We found a yummy restaurant that we keep eating at. Tonight for dinner we ate fish! And it was a whole fish on a plate - head, tail and flipper included!

We continue to climb around and find new ruins to explore. My legs are tired and we are ready for a new place to discover.

Love you both!

Mom
