Every year we kick off Matt's birthday with a Matt Field tribute week. It gets harder to do each year and I think maybe this year will be the official retiring of tribute week, because it is the most exhausting thing. I do like making some of Matt's favorite things for him though, it is one of those things that I know he likes so it makes me happy. Matt is also one of the hardest person's to shop for so truly the way to his heart is through his stomach.
This year some of the items on the menu were:
- Homemade sausage - cheddar bacon, and spicy Italian
- Homemade ravioli with focaccia bread and even Matt's homemade ginger ale (the most homemade meal ever!)
- Eggs Benedict (a tradition for Matt's birthday breakfast) Matt loves this stuff but I hardly make it because it stops your heart just thinking about how much butter goes into that sauce.
- Maple glazed Cinnamon roll cake
- German Chocolate cake- Every year I ask Matt what kind of cake he wants for his birthday and he says the same thing every year. Last year I strayed from his usual request but learned my lesson and stuck with the favorite. I stumbled across this recipe 2 years ago and it is the best ever!

- BBQ pulled pork Nachos - oh my gosh these are so good!
- Steak Sandwiches
- Gorgonzola Fettuccine Alfredo
- And a whole bunch of other stuff that I cannot remember because it was a long week of partying ;)
Lately, Matt has been on this soda kick. He loves a unique / gourmet soda. I think you could officially call him a "soda snob". He has really enjoyed this brand of root beer called Virgil's so my sister bought him every kind they make. I found a new soda brand that focuses on all natural low sugar soda called Dry Soda. I also found a book for brewing your own soda from home and got Matt all the supplies to start his little home brewery. He is stocked up on soda's for while and when he runs out he can make his own little concoction. He already made a ginger ale that was good, needs some sugar tweaking but I am really impressed how bubbly and tasty it was. I see lots of fun soda flavors in our future.
