Porter turns 2

Despite all the bad rep that age 2 gets, I actually really enjoyed this stage with Preston.  He was very silly, and so much fun at this age.  I feel like Porter hit this stage a little sooner in life but I am excited for  his silliness to really shine during this next year. Yes, since the night he turned 2 he has refused to take a nap or even go to bed at night.  I have spent the last couple of days staying up late with him and then listening to him scream for a good while until he falls asleep.  But I am hoping that will come to a quick end.  Or my opinion of the terrible 2's will change. (ok, so I wrote that about a week ago and this boy has officially confirmed all proper reports that 2 is a horrible awful stage. He no longer naps, he cries when we put him to bed and he wants to do EVERYTHING by himself.)

Porter is a very busy boy.  I usually spend my days picking up one room and then another and then another. He is so sweet, but can easily make your life awful if you do not do exactly what he wants.  I don't know how I ended up with the 2 most stubborn children in all of creation.  Porter likes to think that he controls this family and he also thinks that he is much older than 2.  He will try to do anything Preston does, and a lot of the time he succeeds.  He is a very determined little boy and i really hope that characteristic stays with him throughout his life.

Our Porter-boy is a very enthusiastic animated little guy.  I think this is both mine and Matt's very favorite Porter characteristic.  Matt gets an amazing send off from Porter everyday when he leaves for work.  It begins with several kisses on the cheeks.  A couple of raspberries blown on his cheek, some great big squeezes and about 500 bye's that are said in a very loud voice.  He chases Matt out the door and says "be safe, have a good day," and "bye!", he waves all the way until Matt drives off and then he runs back inside to the window and looks out waving and saying "bye daddy" until he can no longer see his car.  Then he gets a sad face and says "oh, where daddy go?".  Everyday.  I love it!

Porter is a very physical boy.  I guess that is nice way of saying he hits.  Preston was not a hitter, but Porter, he winds up and takes a smack.  He can be so happy and then you tell him he cannot do something and he flips so fast and he reacts so physically. He throws things when he is angry and now he tells me after he throws something that he is the Hulk.    And then he can totally flip and he will be saying sorry in this sweet little mild voice. Porter also likes to make a grand entrance when he enters a room.  This means sadness for my walls.  All doors are slammed open causing big dents from the knobs hitting the wall.  It's his way of making it known that he is in the room. Again, very physical.

Porter Stat's
LOVES Curious George - When he watches an episode if George does something silly Porter can be found laughing hysterically and then he will walk over to me and tell me the silly thing that George did.

Favorite Book is Little Blue Truck, Duck on a Bike, and The Truck Book - he actually can name almost all the trucks and tractors

Loves to dance.  And his moves are hilarious.

Porter can pretty much say any word and this is absolutely the best thing in the world for me.

Rides his bike as much as possible and is currently working on riding his big brother's old bike, he is so close!

Loves Tractors and every time we pass one driving he yells at the top of his lungs to get everyone's attention and then announces that he wants to ride in it.

My favorite Porter saying: "Where are you mommy?"

The doctor said he is slowing down on his growth as he only came in at 88% in his height and 87% in weight 36 in tall and weighs 33 pounds.

He can climb into just about anything, and he is very mischievous.

Porter's birthday celebrations included:  a visit to the fire station, eating lunch with daddy, opening awesome presents, and having a Curious George cake.

Happy Birthday Mr. Porter we love you!

We had a little Porter photo shoot that was a little more difficult than I had planned.  And I sure wish blogger would allow me to organize my pictures better.  Since I cannot figure it out here is the long line of pictures that you get to see with every post.

Giving daddy some kisses

sitting in every vehicle he could find.

eating the dots off the cake.

one of his favorite things to do.  Get out all my pots and bang on them so hard that he cracks the wooden spoon.

swim goggles - always a fashionable accessory.

His favorite toy, unfortunately, we will not buy it for him so he gets his fill from friends.

One of my most favorite pictures of this boy.

brotherly love
loves to play choo-choo.  when he is done you will hear loud banging and things hitting the wall because he is throwing all the pieces everywhere out of frustration.
our daily adventures.  After I finish vacuuming the house I find play doh in the living room.
his favorite spot in the store.
I love this nugget.
look at that super hero smile!  I love it!
seriously, I just love this silly boy.  He is really getting close to riding this thing.  If Preston would just let him.
Climbs into everything.

Christmas 2014

I love Christmas time, I do not love the constant nagging everyday from a certain 5 year old asking if it was Christmas day since November.  This year Preston's constant nagging to set up the tree made me cave and yes, our tree was up before Thanksgiving.  Next year I will go back to the day after Thanksgiving tree set up.  As soon as it was up Porter would so kindly rip everything off.  And that was pretty much our daily routine until December 26 when that tree went back in the attic.

Besides all the tree excitement, we actually had a few snowfalls this December so the boys enjoyed playing in the snow.  I thought Porter would enjoy it more than he did.  He dislikes wearing shoes, socks, and flat out refuses to wear anything on his head so winter attire was not making him very happy.  Preston, on the other hand, would not come inside.  He actually shoveled the back yard because the front yard was already shoveled and he just loves to shovel.  At one point I found him shoveling our neighbors driveway because he loved it so much.  We tried sledding, but the snow was not packed down enough so you would just sink.  We also did not have the right winter gear for having daytime excursions in the snow.  Preston and I built a snow fort, we built little snow castles for the animals (Preston seemed very concerned about them for some reason) and we did lots and lots of ice chipping.

Hot chocolate made a daily appearance in our house this year.  We are not used to so much cold so our core temperatures are down, hot chocolate warms the soul :) . Preston would drink it with every meal and he likes "dad's special recipe" which includes Andes mint in it.  Porter really could care less for the stuff.

Matt and I attended our neighbors Ugly Sweater Christmas party and Matt really took it seriously and went all out.  Tights, elf boxers with little jingle bells and a lady size shirt that says "Grandma's bake shop" on it.  When he tried the outfit on at the store the associate could not stop herself from laughing.  A night worth remembering.  And he won 2nd place for his outfit.

Other fun events that we did include:
Seeing Frozen as a family
being snowed in for a few days
no school for a week
driving around to see Christmas lights
seeing Santa
dance parties to Christmas music
making Christmas cookies
making a gingerbread house
opening special ornaments --a tractor for Porter and Antonio the Gold Power Ranger for Preston
acting out the Nativity on Christmas Eve with friends

This year for Christmas Santa gave Preston a new bike and Porter a trampoline--he was even nice and set the trampoline up so the kiddo's could jump on it when they saw it in morning.

It was so fun to see their reaction to everything.  After Preston saw his presents he started jumping up and down shouting, "I'm on the nice list! I'm on the nice list! I'm on the nice list!"  I loved watching his enthusiasm. Oh, and he is so awesome on his bigger bike too.

Porter was excited but we had a hard time getting him to open more than one present.  He would get distracted by the first gift and go play with it.  As soon as they both saw the trampoline though, they were begging to go outside in the 30 degree weather.  We finally bundled them up and let them jump.  They love it!

One thing I love about Christmas morning is sharing it with my kids.  They make it so magical and so worth it!
